Legal update, Crimes Legislation Amendment (Ransomware Action Plan) Bill 2022 reintroduced to Federal Parliament as private member's bill. The CLARAP Bill 2022 was initially introduced to Parliament in February 2022 by Ms Andrews, in her capacity as the Minister for Home Affairs, however the bill lapsed on 11 April 2022 due to the dissolution of the House of Representatives for the federal election. The CLARAP Bill 2022 would amend the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth), the Crimes Act 1914 (Cth) and the Proceeds of Crimes Act 2002 (Cth) with the aim of modernising criminal offences and procedures in response to the increasing threat of ransomware attacks in Australia. This update provides a brief background and overview of the proposed legislation.
