Legal update, Australian regulators throw spotlight on privacy risks of screen scraping practices  provides an overview of current actions by regulators to highlight privacy risks associated with  screen scraping. As the practice of screen scraping becomes more widespread, regulators both in Australia and other jurisdictions have raised concerns. On 24 August 2023, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) issued a joint statement with 11 other international privacy regulators highlighting the role of social media platforms to safeguard consumers from privacy risks arising from screen scraping practices.  On 30 August 2023, Treasury commenced a consultation on screen scraping practices undertaken in the context of consumers seeking to purchase financial management products and services.
